Students serve homemade soya milk to HDFN pupils
December brought a
season of holidays and preparations for the end of the calendar
year. The Time Out For Science Club of Essence International
School, under the able direction of Mrs. Chinwe Okoye, had just
completed its first harvest of crops sown and grown by the
students who operate the TOS school farm. Soya beans featured
among the crops harvested and processed by the students into a
fine and nutritious milk.

The product,
hygienically prepared and packaged, might easily have attracted
competitive prices on the open market, but its commercial
considerations were tossed aside. The TOS club concluded as a
group that the harvest should be shared with the students of the
Human Development Foundation of Nigeria (HDFN) Model School whom
we recognize as our neighbors and friends. Students reaching out
to help others by providing a chilled, vitamin-packed drink made
the holiday a happy time for all, and brought smiles to the
faces of the HDFN children who were totally unaware of the
surprise visit.

The HDFN
coordinator, however, Mrs Rakiya Ibrahim, (pictured at left) has
cultivated the tradition of welcoming visitors, conducting them
on tours around the school and always making them feel
appreciated. She accommodated the TOS students and encouraged
them to feel at ease.
The HDFN Model School for children in need
of special protection measures will grow academically, socially
and morally as community leaders and organizations reach out to
assist them. In this light we are happy to announce that Mrs. Joy Jibrilu,
the principal of Kaduna International School, has promised to
involve her students in a reading class with HDFN students
beginning this year.
