Essence
Principal receives a National Award
Mrs. D. L. Mohammed, the Principal and
founder of Essence International School, received a National
Award on Tuesday December 18, 2001. The award ceremony was held
in the nation’s capital, Abuja. Mrs. Mohammed along with 234
other honorees attended the award ceremony hosted by President Olusegun Obasanjo. She was honored as a Member of the Order of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR) for her immense
contribution to national development and distinguished service
to the community. During the ceremony, President Obasanjo
praised the recipients and encouraged Nigerians everywhere to
strive towards developing the nation. Several teachers and staff
from Essence International School joined the Principal for a
reception at the Nicon Noga Hilton Hotel in Abuja. Mrs. Mohammed
also attended a small, private reception on the school’s
premises in Kaduna, Nigeria.
The school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) congratulated Mrs.
Mohammed with an advertisement in Thisday Newspaper, a local
daily. Essence Teachers & Staff also had a paid ad in a local
paper, The Punch, to announce the award on behalf of the school.
Earlier in the year, Mrs. Mohammed received a Citation from the
City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, for her "vision,
volunteerism and dedication toward the renovation of the Malcolm
X Memorial Park in Philadelphia.
