EIS PTA Executives Review Our Community Project

On February 28, 2002, Four Members of the newly elected PTA Executive Committee decided to pay a visit to the HDFN Model School to have a better idea about the community service project adopted by the out-going executives. They toured the facilities and spoke directly with the Coordinator, Mrs. Rakiya Ibrahim about the progress of the students and the needs of the school. At the conclusion of the visit the executive members were convinced that the HDFN Model School is performing a service for the children of our community and deserves our continued support.

It appears that the Essence PTA President, Mr. Kachalla, is always prepared to teach a class. In all the upper primary grades, he gave an impromptu oral current events test. And to our surprise, the children were falling out their seats to answer the questions! All of this was conducted in English, which demonstrates that the HDFN students are receiving a standard education. After Mr. Kachalla’s challenging questions, the HDFN teachers later planned a special lesson in current events.

The PTA executives held an informal chat with the HDFN coordinator. She told them about vocational classes for the children in sewing and catering. She also mentioned that we are planning to extend our vocational classes to more children who have dropped out or never attended school. It was noticed that the HDFN has adequate ground area for development. The uncompleted building (visible in the background) behind the HDFN sculpture could be finished if funds were available. This would allow the institution to grow and organize more activities for the benefit of the community, such as the recently introduced Adult Literacy and HIV/AIDS Awareness class for women
