The Open Classroom Graduates 1st Professional Teacher Training Class

The Open Classroom, our Essence school-based NGO, recently graduated its first class from the Professional Teacher Training Course. This course was attended by education supervisors from all 23 Kaduna State Local Government Areas coordinated by the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board. It was a 3-month long course at the end of which a graduation ceremony was held for the class. Dignitaries from the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board, the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, our Open Classroom patrons, and other invited guests attended the graduation ceremony and were enthusiatic and supportive.

The course included training in developing teaching aids, basic computer skills, current events, and skills building in English, Reading, Vocabulary and Math. One of the course themes was the "culture of struggle in the concept of development." To successfully meet the course requirements, each participant had a project which entailed teaching what they had learned to adults in their local government. This ensures that the participants not only mastered their subjects, but can also explain and deliver basic education skills to their learners.

The next course offered by The Open Classroom will be a Career Training course, details of which will be released soon. For more information on Open Classroom activities, please send an email to openclassroom@essenceschool.com or openclassroom2000@yahoo.com.
